GVFB is committed to our generous donors, our recipients and to the safe handling of all food donations. Donor and recipient agencies must also have appointed staff contact with FoodSafe certification. All staff directly involved in routing or handling food must complete FoodSafe, a provincially recognized food safety program. GVFB has worked together with our health authority to develop food selection, storage and transportation guidelines for all donors and recipient agencies. If you are unsure if a product meets our needs please check out our Donation Acceptance Policy. We also accept usable, quality, single SKU pallet donations from the food industry that may be mislabeled or close to best before dates.

    Of that, 32 percent – equaling 11.2 million metric tonnes of lost food – is avoidable and is edible food that could be redirected to support people in our communities. Nearly 60% of all of the food produced in Canada is either lost or wasted. Between July 2020 and June 2021, we received a total of 3.9M pounds of food from our industry partners!
